Short answer: On 28 October 2026, IRCC held an Express Entry transport occupations draw (round #453), inviting 150 candidates with a minimum CRS score of 477. In 2026, only four aviation and automotive repair occupations qualify for this category. Transport truck drivers (NOC 73300) are not on the list, so Punjab truck drivers need to look at other Express Entry rounds or provincial programs instead.

Trucking is closely tied to Punjab's links with Canada, and many families in Jalandhar, Kapurthala, Hoshiarpur and across Doaba have relatives driving or repairing trucks there. So when news of a "transport draw" spreads on WhatsApp, the first question we hear is: does this include truck drivers? This guide explains what the Express Entry transport occupations draw is, who actually qualifies in 2026, and what drivers and mechanics from Punjab can do next.

Which Jobs Qualify for the Transport Category in 2026?

IRCC's category-based selection page lists these eligible occupations under the 2021 National Occupational Classification (NOC):

NOC code

Occupation

TEER

72404

Aircraft mechanics and aircraft inspectors

2

72600

Air pilots, flight engineers and flying instructors

2

22313

Aircraft instrument, electrical and avionics mechanics, technicians and inspectors

2

72410

Automotive service technicians, truck and bus mechanics and mechanical repairers

2

To be eligible, you need at least 12 months of full-time work experience (or an equal amount of part-time work) in one of these occupations within the last 3 years. The experience can be gained in Canada or abroad and does not need to be continuous. You must also be eligible for at least one Express Entry program: the Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSW), the Canadian Experience Class (CEC) or the Federal Skilled Trades Program (FST).

Why Truck Drivers (NOC 73300) Are Not Eligible

Transport truck drivers (NOC 73300) do not appear in the transport category or in any other 2026 Express Entry category list. Code 72410 covers truck and bus mechanics, not drivers. IRCC also used a different occupation list for transport rounds in 2023 and 2024, so older social media posts and videos about the transport draw may no longer be accurate.

This does not mean truck drivers are shut out of Express Entry. It means they cannot benefit from the smaller, targeted transport rounds and must compete in other rounds.

Options for Punjab truck drivers

  • Canadian Experience Class: If you have at least 1 year of skilled work experience in Canada in the last 3 years, CEC rounds may be an option. IRCC requires CLB 5 for TEER 2 or 3 occupations under CEC.

  • Federal Skilled Trades Program: NOC Major Group 73 is eligible for FST. You need 2 years of experience in the last 5 years, CLB 5 in speaking and listening and CLB 4 in reading and writing, plus a valid job offer of at least 1 year or a Canadian certificate of qualification.

  • Provincial Nominee Programs: A provincial nomination adds 600 CRS points. Some provinces have run streams for in-demand occupations, so check each province's official website for current streams. Our Canada PNP guide explains how PNPs work.

  • High-wage occupation points from 3 November 2026: IRCC is adding CRS points for Canadian experience or job offers in high-wage occupations and will publish the list of qualifying jobs. Do not assume your job is included until it appears on IRCC's list. Read our high-wage occupation points explainer for details.

What the Transport Draw Means for Punjab Mechanics and Aviation Workers

The real opportunity is for skilled mechanics. Many young people from Punjab train at ITIs and polytechnics in automobile or diesel mechanics, and then gain experience at dealership workshops or transport companies. If your duties match NOC 72410 and you have 12 months of recent experience, you may qualify for the Express Entry transport occupations draw, even if that experience is from India.

Aircraft maintenance engineers, avionics technicians and commercial pilots trained in India may also qualify. In every case, your duties, not just your job title, must match the NOC description. Recent rounds have had high cut-offs (470 and 477), so a strong language score and a well-documented profile matter.

Checklist: Prepare for the Next Transport Round

  1. Confirm your NOC. Compare your daily duties with the official NOC description for 72404, 72600, 22313 or 72410.

  2. Count your experience. Make sure you have at least 12 months of full-time (or equal part-time) work in one listed occupation within the last 3 years.

  3. Get reference letters. Each letter should be on company letterhead and show your job title, duties, hours per week, salary, and start and end dates.

  4. Take an approved language test. Choose an IRCC-approved test (for English: CELPIP General, IELTS General Training or PTE Core) and aim well above the minimum. See our IELTS score requirements by country guide.

  5. Get an ECA if needed. FSW candidates with education from India need an Educational Credential Assessment.

  6. Prepare proof of funds. FSW and FST candidates usually need settlement funds unless exempt. See our Express Entry proof of funds guide.

  7. Keep your profile updated. Update your Express Entry profile if anything changes, especially job offers before 3 November 2026, as IRCC has asked.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are truck drivers eligible for the Express Entry transport occupations draw in 2026?

No. IRCC's 2026 transport category lists only four occupations: aircraft mechanics and inspectors (72404), air pilots, flight engineers and flying instructors (72600), aircraft instrument, electrical and avionics technicians (22313), and automotive service technicians, truck and bus mechanics (72410). Transport truck drivers (NOC 73300) are not on the list.

What was the CRS cut-off in the latest Express Entry transport draw?

In round #453 on 28 October 2026, IRCC invited 150 candidates in the transport occupations category with a lowest CRS score of 477. The previous transport round, on 7 August 2026, invited 300 candidates at CRS 470.

Does work experience from India count for the transport category?

Yes. IRCC says the 12 months of full-time (or equal part-time) experience in one listed occupation within the last 3 years can be gained in Canada or abroad, and does not need to be continuous. You must also meet the requirements of FSW, CEC or FST.

Do I need a job offer to be invited in a transport draw?

The transport category itself does not require a job offer. But you must qualify for an Express Entry program. The Federal Skilled Trades Program, for example, requires a valid job offer of at least 1 year or a Canadian certificate of qualification in your trade.

When will the next Express Entry transport draw happen?

IRCC does not publish a draw schedule. IRCC has also said invitation rounds will pause while it recalculates pool scores after the high-wage occupation changes that take effect on 3 November 2026, which may take up to two weeks.
