Simplified student visa framework (SSVF) was brought into effect on July 1st, 2016. The following changes were introduced:
- All international students will have to apply for a single Student visa (subclass 500), irrespective of the course chosen.
- Guardians of students will apply for the new Student Guardian visa (subclass 590)
- There’s a new Student Document Checklist Tool on the DIBP website which will allow students to check their financial and English language requirements to apply for the visa.
The SSVF is designed to make the process of applying for a student visa simpler to navigate.
Basically, every Country and their education providers are divided into three categories: Category 1, 2 & 3, as per their last 12 months record, and India comes under the AL-2 Category. According to the category chart, Indian students can apply in all three categories. Documents checklist depends on the category of the Education Provider.
